Essay / The theme of Despicable Me directed by Pierre Coffin...
The film Despicable Me directed by Pierre Coffin and Chris Renaud was released in 2010. The film is about an evil villain named Gru, who is the protagonist. Gru hatches an evil plan to steal the moon. To succeed in his project, he needs the help of three little girls whom he adopts. These three little girls turn his world upside down and show him that he can be a loving father. These girls change his heart. Coffin and Renaud used cinematic and narrative techniques to illustrate the theme that good can conquer evil. They also explore the following themes: Everyone's heart can be changed by love and the importance of having a loving family. The directors present these themes through the characters and events in the film. Pierre and Coffin present the theme that good can defeat evil through the characters and events of the film. The main character is the evil Gru, who turns from evil to good. Gru is portrayed as a villain through his actions in many scenes, such as when he is walking down the path and the little boy's ice cream falls off. Gru blows up a balloon and throws it in the boy's face, leaving him shocked and scared. Aside from the actual events of the film, the directors used techniques to make Gru very unlikeable. The directors changed Gru's appearance, making him very unattractive, and even the house he lives in is undesirable. Once Gru adopts the three little girls, he becomes very protective of them. When Vector, a young and new villain, kidnaps the girls from the dance concert, Gru turns into a hero to save them, he even gives them the moon. In the scene where Gru brings Vector's daughters back, he even puts the moon back in its rightful place in space. Then the pre-TV...... middle of paper ... the chairs and his mother admits that he is a better parent than she ever was, makes Gru smile and he feels the reconnection between her and him, as if the bond was finally repaired. This illustrates the importance of having a family because they know that you love others and let people into your life. Having his mother in the film is important because it shows how Gru can truly be part of a family. I enjoyed watching this movie. This shows that people should not be judged by their appearance or a few actions and that people can change. Often these people just need something to love them unconditionally. This is a great movie for kids to watch because it has important underlying themes that they can understand. This is also a good movie for older people as they will appreciate the humor. The themes are successfully represented by the choice of characters and through the events.
