Essay / On the way to an advanced future
Do you want to drive a spaceship? A futuristic, autonomous vehicle that moves so smoothly it barely makes a sound. This is possible thanks to the new feature of today's modern cars, the autopilot system which allows drivers to drive with assistance, without any responsibility for driving safety. The introduction of autonomous vehicle technology can be beneficial by reducing accidents, reducing costs and reducing delays and, finally, providing assistance to specific individuals. However, this is not without its challenges. This includes the requirement for significant funding, a shrinking employment sector, and sensitivity to technological issues and road conditions. Ultimately, while these features may have benefits, they may still be overwhelmed by their flaws and therefore not be ready for the population. Say no to plagiarism. Often, accidents are caused by human failure, whether intentional or not. Intentional mistakes include driving drunk or texting. Additionally, some people may continue to drive despite being tired. On the other hand, computers are incapable of making these errors, reducing car accidents [due to] human errors by approximately “81%” (Johnson, 2014). They are designed to focus on a single channel and can operate continuously without fatigue. Second, self-driving cars can be cost and time efficient. Similar to the cruise function of today's vehicle, an autopilot can also operate at the same speed without constantly pressing the gas pedal, saving users money. Additionally, based on the idea that automated vehicles can reduce car accidents, this would indirectly reduce medical and insurance costs. For example, in 2016, there were 34,439 car accidents per year in the United States. If society used automated cars and around 10,000 deaths occurred, this would still avoid 20,000 accidents (Ozimek, 2014), a considerable difference whose costs could otherwise be attributed to infrastructure or increased employment rates. Another reason why automated cars can be beneficial is the time they give people. An example would be allowing drivers to socialize with their friends, without having to take responsibility for their safety. People can also use this time to catch up on work, school, or the news. It can also neutralize bad habits of human beings such as drunk driving, excessive speed or even using the phone while driving. Third, an automated system will be an excellent source of transportation for specific people, especially those with disabilities or the elderly. These are people who, crippled by physical or mental limitations, often rely on the government to provide the transportation they need to get around. Revolutionizing autonomous vehicles will surely free these individuals from any future travel dilemmas. Another group that could be used for our children. Children can be transported to their school or to their parents.
