For some industries, like petrochemicals that have continuous production, the ERP system is essential for fulfilling orders and organizing internal data. For industries like these, organizational success is directly linked to the ability to adapt functions to the requirements of the ERP system. However, in global organizations that serve the ultimate consumer/customer, depending on portfolio differences, unique data, such as customer database, may be stored locally. Rather than organizations providing intermediate goods, organizations that serve different and demographically diverse customers around the world may choose to retain variability in their ERP systems.
