The narrator of our story must find a repairman for his faulty pocket watch. He discovers the story of an old watchmaker who lives as a hermit with his daughter and never leaves his workshop. Arriving at the watchmaker's house, the narrator learns that his watch came from a great sailor and the watchmakers begin to tell the story of his life as a stable boy, working with horses and sailing around the world.
