NBT1-Task 1A.Personal PhilosophyMy personal philosophy for managing my diverse second grade classroom was created through past experiences, various theorists, and personal observations. One of the theorists who contributed to my philosophy is William Glasser. He defined the role of the teacher as that of a leader to students rather than that of a “boss” (Glasser 1990). Above all, as a leader, I will put in place reasonable rules at the start of the school year. Having rules, routines, and consequences established in advance will reduce the chances of not knowing how to handle a bad situation. I firmly believe that every child is different and capable of success. They need a safe, fun and stimulating environment in which to learn and mature socially, intellectually, physically and emotionally. To be an effective second grade teacher, classroom management must be what sets a good foundation for all students. It is my desire as an educator to help students realize their full potential in an atmosphere of trust. There are three elements that I believe are important for this to work, (1) the teacher acting as a guide and not a boss, (2) allowing students to create the assignments based on their interests, and (3) promote respect for each other.A1a. Self-managementIn order to educate my second grade students to their potential, I will use my self-management methods, skills and strategies. I will implement goal setting, decision making and self-assessment. I believe letting students make certain decisions will help them explore their curiosity. The greatest benefit is achieved when students play a role in setting the objectives, as they will feel more ownership and responsibility... in the middle of the document...... to learn what is presented and give examples, visuals, and/or videos of what they will learn.A3a. Dealing with bad behavior1. When a student misbehaves because they want attention, my strategy will be to ignore their misbehavior when possible. Slowly but eventually the bad behavior should stop. Instead, give the student positive attention. The student will eventually notice that he gets attention when good behaviors are exhibited.2. When a child feels hurt or unloved, he uses revenge to hurt others and make himself feel good. To do this, I will avoid punishment and instead talk to the student and show them that they are loved. I will build a relationship of trust and convince the student that we all care for him. Punishing or retaliating would only make things worse. Staying positive and creating a safe and trusting environment is essential.
