Polygraph tests are a controversial topic. Their accuracy is well debated. We know that they are not one hundred percent accurate, which is why they are not admissible in all courts. Polygraphs measure physical changes in the body, which are measured and recorded. Some states will allow the polygraph test, as long as the prosecution and the accused agree that no matter what he or she says, the results are valid. This means that a person cannot agree to take the test and then try to have it thrown out of court because they don't like the results. Lie detectors are used in many reality television shows such as "The Steve Wilkos Show" or "Maury", where they deal with adultery, child abuse and many other topics. Even though polygraph tests are not one hundred percent accurate, they can be used as an indicator of whether a person is telling the truth or not. Lie detector tests, also called polygraph tests, are almost never used in criminal cases. The theory behind a lie detector test is that it is too stressful to lie and the test will be able to detect the associated stress and read it. The term “polygraph” in Greek means “many writings.” “Lie detectors are called polygraphs because the test involves monitoring several physiological functions of the suspect simultaneously – breathing, pulse and galvanic skin response – and printing the results on graph paper.” (Lie detector and polygraph tests: are they reliable?). When the results are printed, the lie detector administrator can easily determine the precise time these biological responses occurred. If you show a peak biological response that matches the questions asked on the graph paper, it shows that stress is presumed and stress indicates lying. Sometimes...... middle of paper ...... there is a situation where a person lies and the results prove that they are telling the truth, but they later turn out to be misleading and a false negative C is the opposite: the subject was telling the truth and turned out to be deceptive when he was really telling the truth. Polygraphs, as far as we know, are only about ninety percent accurate. This means that they are ten percent inaccurate or inconclusive, which is open to debate. Polygraphs can be a blessing or a curse, depending on the circumstances. But if this person is telling the truth, there is no reason to worry. Polygraph tests are strictly scientific, and sometimes the science isn't always one hundred percent accurate, but they are still useful. Polygraph testing has changed global technology for everyone and has the ability to make huge advancements in the future..
