Compare the story “Gentleman, Your Verdict” to the Robert Latimer case. Both the story “Gentleman, Your Verdict” and the Robert Latimer case are painful to read or hear. They seem to be very similar in main idea when first reading. However, a closer reading of the two stories also shows us fundamental differences. First, I will look at the differences between the two situations. Captain Oram was a commander stuck on a submarine in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean with his crews. On the other hand, Robert was a Saskatchewan farmer watching his 12-year-old daughter lead a life worse than death. Captain Oram did not have much time to make his decisions unlike Robert who had been managing the situation for a long time. Again, Oram had to think more professionally because these were his crews, and he had to make the best decision to save their lives in accordance with his professional code. Robert's decision was full of emotion because he was dealing with his daughter. Additionally, they had different ways of killing. Robert killed his daughter...
