It's the first thing we do when we wake up in the morning and the last thing we do before bed. It allows businesses to advertise their products as well as promote social media influencers. This new tool allows businesses to market their products effortlessly, with just the swipe of a finger. They create outrageous and attention-grabbing cover photos and clickbait headlines to draw attention to their brand. I often find myself scrolling through Instagram and seeing lots of captivating ads pop up. Whether it's a bikini sale or a new jewelry website, I find it very intriguing and it often leads me to click on the link to their website and then consider purchasing that article. New e-cigarette companies have begun using these same tactics in order to attract more customers to their products. But the problem is that they attract the wrong audience. Canada's youth and I are in a very vulnerable place in our lives, where we can be persuaded to buy just about anything. These tiny e-cigarette devices can create huge clouds and be used almost anywhere. However, no one really knows the harm it can cause, especially among adolescents. The most common ingredient we all hear about is nicotine, which we all know is a highly addictive substance found in cigarettes, cigars, and chewing tobacco. We also all know that most vaporizers contain many different flavored juices to give a new and exciting feeling to a vaping device. But what we didn't know is that these chemicals in these juices are linked to many unknown lung diseases. Now take a new, unstudied product that contains highly addictive substances and associate it with adolescent social media addiction. We have just found ourselves on the path to disaster.
