The World Health Organization has described childhood obesity as “one of the most serious public health challenges of the 21st century ". Children who are overweight or obese are more likely to be overweight or obese than adults and have a higher risk of developing chronic conditions such as cardiovascular disease and diabetes. These public health challenges add billions of dollars to national health care spending each year. It would benefit both individuals and society as a whole to take meaningful action to address this crisis.1 Many factors contribute to the childhood obesity crisis and there is no clear or concise solution. Unhealthy foods high in fat, salt and sugar are easily accessible and often much cheaper and more appealing than healthy, wholesome foods. There is also a decline in the level of physical activity in children's lifestyles.1 These causes of obesity are exacerbated by eye-catching junk food advertising which can influence children's food preferences and demands.
