  • Essay / Why cyberbullying is on the rise - 1383

Young girls are sweet, kind, fragile little creatures who come from above. Never classified as malicious, conniving, secretive, or evil, but in this article I will address the truth of this statement. Young girls are mean and in this society anything can happen. “The Council of the American Academy of Pediatrics found that cruelty toward children is more widespread than people want to admit” (Stadtmiller, 2010). This is very alarming because these are young children who don't really know how to express themselves. Children today have extremely easier access to social media and the internet than ever before, which is why cyberbullying is on the rise. Cyberbullying is one of the biggest growing threats in the world and it must stop. Peer pressure, bullying, low self-esteem, recognition of popularity from peers, rumors and media are key factors in why young girls are bullies in these difficult times. There are two forms of popularity, one being sociometric and the other being perceived popularity. “Sociometric popularity refers to how well a person is liked. The other form, perceived popularity, refers to a person's status or prestige” (Steinberg, 2013). All children want to be liked by their peers, deep down, they want to be liked and talked about. Young adolescents want their peers to tell them how wonderful they are and how great they are or how well they are doing in school, which should not be the essence of friendships. It's like the terrible saying about advertising in show biz: any type of advertising is good advertising because they have your name in their mouth. Everyone wants to be liked even as teenagers and it's difficult when you can't fit in. This is why young girls do their best to become popular or...... middle of paper ...... because they are therefore sneaky, complicit, and know how to use relational aggression. Bullied children are unpopular and rejected, decreasing adolescent mental health. These factors are: depression, lack of motivation, outbursts of anger, substance abuse and also social withdrawal which makes the person difficult to manage. These stresses suffered by these children can worsen the lives of young adolescents which can, in the long term, persist into adulthood. They can cause them to have sleep problems, drug problems, and chronic weight problems. All this from one young girl bullying an innocent child like them. Now that we have talked about the adolescent and his bullying issues, I will now talk about the most effective interventions for the child to stop bullying and become positive in behavior. result.
