    IntroductionIn this assignment, I will justify the place of the following subjects in the national primary curriculum: geography, history, physical education, religious education, drama and music. The reason why I chose these subjects is because I experienced them during my teaching internships and seminars at the university. In addition to this, I will analyze the use of transdisciplinary learning in primary education and try to explore the benefits and challenges of this approach.GeographyI believe that geography is an important subject in the national curriculum primary because it helps children develop an understanding of places in the world and the diversity of people who live there. For me, this is an important aspect of learning because it allows children to have a global awareness. According to the DFES (Great Britain. Department for Education and Skills, 2005a), education plays a vital role in helping children recognize their contribution and responsibilities as citizens of the global community and equipping them with the skills needed to make informed decisions and act responsibly. At a recent Geography seminar I collaboratively planned a lesson for KS2, involving children visiting Seaton, a local beach in Cornwall to compare and contrast the area through photographs following the recent storm damage. The Royal Geographical Society (2014) suggests that through inquiry-based fieldwork, children can gain first-hand experiences of physical processes. Having planned this activity, I now realize that using direct experiences will help children develop attitudes and opinions.
