Essay / The Importance of Ethics in Business - 1469
Ethics is the branch of philosophy that deals with the principles related to human behavior concerning the right and wrong of a specific conduct, as well as the right and evil that influence and end these actions (Ditonary.com, 2011). In other words, ethics is the choice people make regarding a decision they must make. Without ethics guiding an individual's choice, moral preferences about what should or should not be done no longer matter. Although ethical decisions are made every day, there are two different regions in which these choices are made. Personal ethics are something that everyone has, but their actions decide whether choices are right or wrong. Before World War II, society as a whole knew the difference between good and evil and the ethical choices made at the time were what we took for granted. This meant that society was controlled by a specific value system (Hulme, 2000) which we do not have in today's world. In today's society, right and wrong are judged based on how one is perceived, not how one chooses to think. Business ethics is the ability to make the right decision regarding the way business is conducted. Trust is based on work expectations and consistency of behavior. So it is conceivable to be beneficial when someone states something and realizes what they said. Therefore, an interesting practice of good business ethics is the importance that employees bring to their work environment (Chair, 2011). However, in today's business society, it is usually the opposite that is defined, as people are motivated by greed. Essentially, personal ethics affects business ethics, meaning the cause produces the effect. Business Ethics Without employees, a void...... middle of paper ...... e work. Santa Clara University.
