IntroductionFood insecurity and poor nutrition are a problem of alarming magnitude for low-income families, particularly in developing countries. There are many strategies to combat this problem, although few of them address all the factors that contribute to it as well as all the possible solutions to resolve it. In many cases, multiple strategies need to correlate and work together so that all the determinants of this problem are addressed and can combat food insecurity from different angles. This essay will discuss the importance of the problem, a range of possible strategies to address the problem, and detail some of them that will correlate and work together to address different drivers of food insecurity and poor nutrition .Significance of the problem/strategiesFood Insecurity is defined as “the state of living without reliable access to a sufficient amount of nutritious and affordable food” (Oxforddictionaries.com, 2014). This in turn leads to hunger, which can have three possible meanings: 1) “the feeling of discomfort or pain caused by lack of food; craving, also the state of exhaustion caused by lack of food", 2) "the need or scarcity of food in a country" and 3) "a strong desire or craving" (Worldhunger.org , 2014). Food insecurity also leads to malnutrition, with 870 million people worldwide, or one in eight, suffering from chronic undernourishment (Fao.org, 2014). According to this alarming figure, 852 million of these people live in developing countries, making it clear that the majority of strategies used to solve this problem should be aimed at them (Fao.org, 2014). The world produces enough food to feed everyone, with an estimated amount of 2,720 Kcal per person per day (Worldhunger.org, 2014). The only problem is paper distribution......There are currently no partner organizations working with MicroLoan Foundation, although they receive little government funding. The majority of their income comes from personal donations as well as recycled loans (MicroLoan Foundation, 2013).ConclusionIn conclusion, addressing food insecurity and poor nutrition among low-income families, especially in developing countries, is a complex task. This requires many different strategies because there are many factors that influence hunger and why it occurs. The three chosen strategies are effective on their own, but implemented together they will address many more of the determinants causing this problem. The World Food Program strategy is a quick fix to this problem and is not sustainable, but alongside the strategies of Oxfam and MicroLoans, they would all bring a hugely positive change to the current appearance of food insecurity..
