In Daniel Beaty's conversational poem, Duality Duel: The Nerd vs the Nigga, he explains the battle fought between the nerd and the nigga by speaking about both as the nerd and the nigger. The battle is fought within many African Americans. Many believe that there is no place for the negro in elite society, so they abandon the negro in themselves and adopt the nerd or image that seems "appropriate" for behavior and image of upper class or elite society. The battle between the nerd and the nigger is in serious need of a resolution. The battle may not be won by just one side, so the question is can the nerd and the nigger coexist? What is a nerd? What is a nigga? Before the question of nerd and nigger can coexist, nerd and nigger must be answered. According to Dictionary.com, a nerd is an intelligent but determined person who is obsessed with a hobby or non-social activity. What is a nigga? The legendary Smokey Robinson once said, "I think it's a shame that every few years black people change their names," but nigga was one of the first names, probably the first name after black or African. During the era of slavery, slave masters called slaves "niggers", the term "nigger" is just the slang version of the word nigger. Today, the word is only used respectfully by black people toward other black people. The use of this word by the white race is considered very disrespectful. Today, black people use this word as a form of endearment or endearment. It's common to go out and hear a black person greet another black person by saying, "What's up, nigga," and their goodbye will most likely sound something like "Peace, my nigga" or "See you later, nigga.” Between hello and goodbye, the middle of the paper contains his "well-designed external character", which expresses that the nerd is running away from himself. Beatty would later say, speaking like the nigger, "without me, there is no you" and it is in this sentence that the truth lies. So the solution to the battle between the nerd and the nigger is that they coexist and they can do it. The nerd and the nigger complement each other and each must reveal themselves at their own respectable moments. As Beaty says, you don't have to become just a nigga, "but this thing is true, inside of you is a badass nigga that you gotta let out." Don't deprive yourself of being who you really are, embrace your nerd and journey to the nigga within you..
