Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, better known as ADHD, is a chronic condition affecting millions of children and often persisting into adulthood. People with this mental disorder have difficulty concentrating, controlling hyperactivity and impulsive behavior. It seems that more and more children are being diagnosed with ADHD due to poor behavior and an inability to concentrate; However, ADHD is a real problem that can too often be ignored. Although treatment does not cure ADHD, treatment is an excellent option for many people, and studies show that medications such as Ritalin or Concerta, along with behavioral interventions or therapy, can be very helpful. ADHD may decrease with age and maturity, and treatment provides an additional boost to treating symptoms. Many believe that medication and treatment are not the best approach for children with this condition; Yet, in most cases, medications and treatments provide a beneficial tool that alleviates the individual's difficulty concentrating, resulting in improvements in social behavior, academics, and lifestyle. Although many children are diagnosed in elementary school, some children, especially those with mild cases of ADHD, may not be diagnosed until high school or college. Regardless, ADHD has a great influence on academic performance and often causes students with this disorder to have a lot of difficulty paying attention and concentrating in class. Children with this disorder tend to be very restless and have difficulty sitting still. Finally, medications and treatments lead to a more unified and balanced lifestyle, where daily problems become much easier to manage. Time and time again, researchers have successfully demonstrated the remarkable accuracy of stimulants in relieving ADHD symptoms.
