Each person would answer these questions based on their thoughts, knowledge, and sometimes beliefs. Islam and democracy have been controversial topics for many years. It never fails to be a point of interest for people involved in politics and/or looking to learn about politics. A vast literature has developed asserting that Islam possesses all the elements of the modern condition and society. Many Muslim scholars seek to prove that Islam preserves democratic values. Democracy is determined by many elements such as wealth, culture and knowledge. Some believe that religion is also one of the components of democracy. In many arguments, religion is primarily seen as something that hinders democracy, something others disagree with. Additionally, many people attempt to provide verification and evidence to prove that in Muslim countries democracy is either weak or non-existent. Furthermore, these people use religion, such as Quranic verses, to clearly express this observable fact. On the other hand, others believe that Islam, or religion in general, cannot be used to clarify democracy or its improvements and expansion. In this essay, the topic or idea of ​​Islam and democracy will be discussed and seen from the perspective of the two thinkers, Bernard Lewis and Irfan Ahmed. The two thinkers disagree on whether Islam and democracy are compatible. Additionally, they tend to offer many different arguments, including Islam, democracy, and the political nature of Islam.
