Every day, people are presented with choices. Some choices are easy to make, but others require more time to really think through. The big question is which would be the best choice? Some situations may have multiple choices that seem to be the best or most logical. How do we determine which choice is the most ethical and can this decision be made alone? In the workplace, an employee can ask their manager for help in determining the most ethical business decision. Often this course of action may seem like the best choice, but would the manager in charge be understanding and take the right course of action to resolve the problem? To answer these questions, the students had to work on an ethics simulation game. The simulation used and described the four ethical lenses as well as the Baird decision model (University of Phoenix, 2014). The progression of the simulation led students to focus on two ethical perspectives in the proposed scenarios. The simulation presented two different work-related scenarios: one concerns the confidentiality of a staff member who may have experienced sexual harassment in the workplace, while the other discusses an issue that arose in the report of clinical data from the staff member who may have caused the fabrication of data in the research (University of Phoenix, 2014). The goal of the simulation is to make students understand the importance of analyzing situations and taking into consideration the possible outcome of their decision. In one of the simulations, a sexual harassment case called The Case of the Mysterious Rose (University of Phoenix, 2014). Gayle received gifts and cards from an anonymous sender. She finally decides that some steps need to be taken ... middle of paper ...... when it comes to confidentiality, she needs to be sure that I can help her as her supervisor. I can use these ethical perspectives and lenses in my workplace. when similar situations arise to reach an appropriate ethical conclusion. By gathering information and thinking about the facts, I can make the best choice for me and the company. When situations arise, it is best to have guidelines to follow and not make hasty decisions. If these steps are followed, the outcome should be better for both parties involved. By learning these steps, I can make good decisions without having to involve others unless necessary. Making ethical decisions can be a tedious process. However, making a hasty decision can ruin your career. Works Cited University of Phoenix. (2014). Welcome to a hot topics dilemma of ethics game!.
