  • Essay / National Honor Roll - 1290

National Award! Why is Ibori's name not included? The National Honor Award in Nigeria is the gathering and publicity of the outcasts of our society and a showcase of the “gangster paradise” community out there. You get the same depressing sense of sickness every time you encounter a pastor flying on a private plane while the ghetto residents and their children who pay their bills via offerings live in grinding poverty. If you put together our national honor winners and our pastors who spend their congregations' savings on selfish interests, you have a perfect tribe of biblical Sodom and Gomorrah in Nigeria. I now hand over the microphone to Dora Akuyili, the Minister of Information, who renamed the outcasts who won the national award with stunning success. Our national honor roll has become one of nuisance value since Obasanjo's political class stormed our political places in 1999 like pharaonic plagues. Since then, the Honor Roll has become the standard by which conventional wisdom measures thugs, economic hitmen, tough guys, profiteers, ratbags, playboys and playgirls. Hardly honest people have won our national award and when sociocentric individuals like Chnue Achebe have won, they reject it because they are ashamed to be ranked alongside their refractory peers who have been dotting the awards lists since 1999 . How President Jonathan Goodluck explained to history and future generations of Nigerians that Ibori's name is not on the National Honor Roll which he claimed was compiled by the late President Yar 'Adua before his death? It's also no surprise that Mike Aondokaa's name isn't on this list. Unthinkable! Our president seems to be raising the bar for deception... middle of paper...... the criticism leveled at him shortly after his creation must have evaporated after reading the caliber of those who made the list . In a normal society, Jonathan winners will be in prison. Most of its winners are wanted by the EU and US or have been declared persona non grata by First World countries. Farida Waziri is highly hated by the American authorities as well as their European allies. This administration's National Honor Roll worked directly in favor of Odumegu Ojukwu's Biafran 'war memo'. Where Ojuku warned leaders not to build monuments for themselves. It is inappropriate to say that incumbent office holders would distribute monuments and titles among themselves. But only in Nigeria. After Jonathan single-handedly bestowed upon himself the highest honor in the land, he now extends undeserved titles to the president's men and women to appease their hearts and bribe them for his electoral activity of 2011..
