A Marine lives up to the core values ​​of honor, courage and commitment. A Marine will give up his life for his fellow Marines, his family and his country without hesitation. The formal definition of a Marine is to be part of the Marine Corps, the military, but it is much more. Being a Marine means being part of a fraternity/sorority. Being part of a fraternity/sorority means being part of something special. When I was a young Marine, I was on vacation with my unit in Florida. It was towards the end of the trip and we were swimming around 9:30 in the evening. I was out early and changed, the hotel manager told me as I was walking back to the pool that everyone had about 10 minutes left before the pool closed. As I informed my young Marines that it was almost time, my best friend came over and pushed me into the deepest part of the pool, knowing that I didn't know how to swim. All the Young Marines in the pool immediately came to my aid. They took care of one of their own. I could have lost the trust and respect of my subordinates and for me, that is losing everything. When you are in the military, brotherhood is important when you call that Marine your brother or sister for the first time, there is no doubt about their trust or intentions. at that point you would give your life for them and vice versa. I used quotes from my closest friends because, inside and outside of the Young Marines, we created our own brotherhood and we are still close to this day. I would do anything for them and I know they would do anything for me. Being a young Marine meant being part of something special, special friends and bonds. Brotherhood is a friendship not only for many years but for eternity.
