The environmental movement can be defined as a new emerging disciple sparked by the widespread fear of environmental weakening. Advocate for sustainable resource management and environmental protection through changes in individual/global behavior and in public policy or law. It was not until the mid-1960s that the environmental movement became widespread in society. Even then, it was still a relatively small infrastructure. At that time, the Great Lakes were damaged; smog overwhelmed the cities; and growing concern about nuclear energy are all contributing factors to widespread concern about the environmental problems developing in our world (Smallman and Brown). The Amazon rainforest is tens of millions of years old and is home to a large number of species. Which makes it one of the most powerful symbols of the environmental movement. I say this mainly because it raises the issue of deforestation and species loss. When serious changes occur in the forest, they are linked to global climate change. The Amazon became an international environmental issue in the 1980s, when people began to realize that if the rate of deforestation continued, our ecosystem could be destroyed. (Smallman and Brown) The destruction of our ecosystem, deforestation, as well as hunting and pollution are leading to the extinction of many species around the world. Richard Leakey and Roger Lewin described the experience of two scientists who discovered a ridge in western Ecuador called "Centinela". They described the environment as “as rich as it is vulnerable” (Leakey and Lewin, 1996). The environment was filled with ninety unknown species and was an extremely diverse habitat, isolated and developing unique flora. In eight years o...... middle of paper ...... The amount of chlorine released by CFCs has created potholes in the ozone layer, which can cause us huge damage. It was at this time, in 1987, despite significant opposition from industries, that nations implemented the Montreal Protocol, which eliminated CFCs. Similar efforts will be needed to stop the increase in greenhouse gases, also known as global warming. Global warming is simply more difficult to manage because of our demographic reality. The EPA and other global organizations have implemented more efforts globally. Acts like the Clean Air Act, which was created in 1963 to encourage programs to prevent and control air pollution (Air). The National Environmental Policy Act, which was created in 1970 and required agencies to prepare "environmental impact quotas." The list is long. Overall, environmental issues constitute the ultimate international problem..
