Ashley Bye organized a campaign group in Georgia and told the campaign group the story of her own struggles. She mentioned coming from a low-income household and a time in her life when her mother got sick. Her mother could not afford health care while still maintaining their household. Ashley Bye described her favorite meal as a mustard relish sandwich. Close. Obama said Ashley felt it was the cheapest way for Ashley to eat. Ashley ate this way for a year until her mother got better. In Ashley's story Bye Pre. Obama mentioned how Ashley told the group that she joined the campaign so she could help other children who needed and wanted to help their families in the same way. Ashley went around the group of volunteers and asked them to give their reason for participating in the campaign. President Obama told the audience: While everyone had their own reasons, there was one elderly black man whose reason was quite simple. Ashley asked the man why he joined the campaign and he replied: "I'm here for Ashley." Obama concluded by mentioning that this simple statement spoke volumes.
