Title: Encompassing the Arts Across the Grades Domains/Content: Language Arts, Visual Arts, and Music Grade Levels: 2nd, 5th, and 8th Project Timeline: Projected Time Needed includes one to two weeks for four 2nd grade classes to create and upload their drawings to VoiceThread.com, three weeks (MF 45 min./day), for 5th grade students to complete the entire writing process and to publish their poetry, and two weeks for the 8th graders to compose and publish their music to complement the drawing and their poetry using VoiceThread. These times are projections. They can change.Overview: This is a collaborative VoiceThread of three different classes in my district (2nd, 5th, and 8th graders). This project is an example of the power of collaboration using technology that embraces art through words, visuals and music. Creating a drawing using the Web 2.0 tool, Palcu Drawing for Children, that depicts a favorite place to visit or imagine visiting is the task of 2nd grade students. Second graders not only draw using an online drawing program, but also meet language arts standards by writing at least two complete sentences that adequately describe the picture they are painting. they drew. The sentences will be in two places or can be in both. The drawing program, Palcu Drawing for Children, allows children to use a text tool to enter their sentence directly on their drawing. Students will save their drawings before uploading them to VoiceThread.com. To complete the collaboration portion of the Grade 2 students' task, they use VoiceThread.com to upload their saved drawing, then use the text tool to re-enter their sentence(s). Using the VoiceThreads recording tool, the 2nd g. ..... middle of paper ......from the high school music teacher. I will provide feedback orally and/or verbatim by personally commenting on the VoiceThread that contains their composition. Another option to close would be to enlist the help and creativity of students to invite parents/guardians/family to an evening during the project presentation. VoiceThread would be shown to everyone, also providing a time to refresh and share some aspects of the project itself. • Evaluation: the evaluation procedures will only concern the part of the online collaborative project reserved for 5th grade students. Above I have suggested procedures for the 2nd and 8th grade parts. Due to the complexity and subjective nature of writing and publishing poetry, I believe that a rubric would be the best assessment tool to use to assess the criteria of each 5th grade student.E :PBS Comm_Collab OnlinePoetry Rubric.doc
