Essay / The 3 concepts of effective leadership
When it comes to leadership, three images can come to mind. You can think of a political leader working to pursue an economic cause, an explorer cutting down bushes and vines clearing the way for other explorers to a destination, or an executive developing a business strategy to beat competitors. Leadership describes so many people and jobs. There is this quote from Professor Warren G. Bennis that I found interesting: “Leaders are people who do the right things, managers are people who do the right things.” This quote says that leaders may work hard to do the right thing, but it may not necessarily be done well, and managers work hard to do things right, but it may not be the right thing . Leaders and managers may sometimes think differently, but when they think correctly and perform their tasks correctly, they are one. Say no to plagiarism. An effective leader creates an inspiring vision of the future, motivates and inspires people, manages the realization of the vision, mentors and builds a team. A leader works hard to bring together a common goal or interest. Together, they work hard to succeed. The leader can teach and coach the team on how to achieve the goal or vision, but together they work hard to achieve it. I took the "How good are your leadership skills" test and got a score of 70. The description it had for someone who scores a 70. 70 said: "You are on the right path to becoming a good leader. However, you can never be too good at leadership or too experienced.” This told me to look at the areas I scored high on and the areas I can work on and see how I can improve. The first area I scored high on, which is a 10/10, was positive attitude and outlook. This area speaks about my positive attitude in life, my good outlook on life and my optimism. I got a 7/10 in emotional intelligence which involves understanding people. I agree that I need to work on understanding people better and it's a difficult concept because you can't always read people's minds. I got the same rating for providing a compelling vision and motivating people. Providing a compelling vision is about presenting ideas, the future and having knowledge of the field in which you work. I would say that I need to present my ideas better and have better knowledge of certain areas in which I work. Motivating people is about creating and selling the vision, as well as convincing others of the goals. I got a slightly higher score in model, 8/10. A model does what he says and communicates with others. I can work on it and become a better role, including keeping my promises and communicating with others. My last two marks were in performance management, 6/10 and in support, 15/20. Managing performance is about clearly setting your expectations and telling people what you want; This is an area I can work on. Support means making people feel good at their workplace and motivating them. You want to challenge them, motivate them and make them feel good. Finally, I watched this short video that described leadership styles. The styles are autocratic, democratic, laissez-faire, and transformational. Autocratic is about speaking and communicating.
