  • Essay / Ishmael's Themes - 628

After Ishmael returned to Freetown, Sierra Leone, after the RUF and military aide left the civilian government, and the war Ishmael avoided catches up with him. After his uncle's death, Ishmael fled Sierra Leone for neighboring Guinea and eventually headed to his new life in the United States. The theme of this book was courage because it took a lot of strength to do what Ishmael did. Ishmaël and his friends show courage in the decisions they had to make and in the way they handled the deaths. If I was in their time, I couldn't survive what they went through. The theme is also about valuing my friends because in this war his friends always supported him, that's how my friends are. The point of view of this story must be first person. The reason for this answer is that the boy soldier was Ishmael himself, for example he used I in the book. The author also states that he wrote it himself. The plot was that the rebels decided to conquer each other's villages. The resolution was that he was trying to remember what happened after his entire family was killed. The United Nations people started rounding up all the young soldiers, including Ishmael, for rehabilitation. The setting of this story is Sierra Leone, Africa. Ishmael has traveled everywhere from Kabati, Mattru Jong, Kamatorn and more until the end where he ends up in Freetown. analysis I really enjoyed reading this book by Ismaël because it tells how life has its twists and turns and adventures through villages and trying to escape death. The characters in this book show that you actually have true friends and that society can form and shape who you are or who you could be. My favorite character would have to be Ishmael Beah because......in the middle of the paper......it's a day and people need help. Now, to complete my analysis, Ishmael lived a bad life but before the war, he enjoyed a happy childhood in his village. During the war, Ishmael is forced to become a supernatural killing machine, capable of committing horrific acts of violence, without the sleep and comfort of another living organism. Ishmael then does his best not to get killed after having a loaded mechanical weapon at hand. Later in the story, when UNICEF rescues Ishmael, the young soldier from the front lines of the war, Ishmael is rehabilitated so that all the drugs in his body are removed. It helped him stay awake and get therapy so he could remember his old life. and do good. Ishmael then moved to New York and wrote his own book, Now He Gives Advice to Children and Teaches Others About Real Life, When He Was a Child Soldier and How to Move in Certain Situations..
