Essay / Obtaining a Degree in Information Management - 1018
-What information management means to you and how to obtain a master's degree in information management s would it fit into your future plans? After completing my bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering from University of Mumbai, I joined Vistaar, a pricing solutions company with a powerful analytics tool and engine of transactions as main products, as a software engineer. While working on client projects, I've learned that companies are willing to pay a lot of money to replace their existing pricing systems with what Vistaar offers simply because we can capture and represent important information in a meaningful way. This caught my curiosity and as I delved deeper into real customer scenarios, I realized that these companies either don't have the proper tools or mechanisms to capture the information, or have no idea what they can do with it. During my undergraduate studies, I always made an effort to come up with a version of the program myself before checking the pre-made solutions, which helped me think outside the box. As a result, I was assigned more than 7 different projects at Vistaar, which further enhanced my thinking and problem-solving skills. Learning new things and solving real-world problems has always been my strong point and there is a deeper pool of problems to solve in the field of information management. Therefore, working as an information architect who can solve data problems and derive more value from them by leveraging technical and business knowledge has become my career goal. I now view the MSIM program at the University of Washington as a crucial step toward achieving my goals. -Why and how did you choose the MSIM program at the University of Washington School of Information and how do you see the prog...... middle of paper... only well coordinated with it in working late to facilitate good communication, but also developed the artifacts in question with the highest quality and diligence that satisfied the client's requirements. Vistaar's product development team receives their requirements from our Senior Vice President, who works out of our US office. I also worked in this team for a long time which meant I had to have WebEx sessions with him overnight in India to know the requirements, demo the products, give status updates, seek feedback , etc. In addition to working with people in different time zones, I have worked in teams with people of different understandings, backgrounds and abilities. I adapted well to all these teams and paced my work according to the abilities of its members. This way I learned about team work and dynamics, which I am sure will be of great use to iSchool..
