Anonymous sperm and egg donationAnonymous sperm and egg donation is a serious matter. Some people think they should remain anonymous, others don't. Some reasons for becoming a known donor are legal rights, medical reasons, and psychological issues. Donor parents and children need to know where the sperm or egg came from because it could affect their future. Medical risks are a huge problem that everyone needs to be aware of, but especially those who don't know where they come from. Donor children who do not know who their donor is or who are searching for their biological parent may have psychological problems growing up. Children have the right to know their biological origin. There are many views on sperm and egg donation. Some people would say that the donor child has no legal right to know their donor parent. But some say the opposite. Everyone has the legal right to know where they come from. The donor child and the parent who raised the child must know the donor parent. The parent must know where their child comes from and the child must know it too. Ms Pratten, a child of a donor, said: “It’s very disappointing. All we asked for were the same benefits as adopted people. They [the BC court] basically said, “No, you can't have that. "And they basically said it was OK for the government to discriminate" (qtd. in Bains). She explained it perfectly. Courts discriminate against donor children. If adopted children can know who their biological parents are, why can't donor children? Men donating sperm are changing people's ideas about fatherhood. People think that donating sperm is a good thing and the donor's children should be happy to be born, but they don't know the side effects of being a donor...... middle of paper ... ...2014.
