    There is and always has been a direct relationship between technology and politics. From the Paleolithic era to the Urban Revolution and the birth of civilization, as technology developed and advanced, so did politics and its influence on that same technology. The origin of technology is not found in necessity, nor in science. The origin of technology is rooted in our biology. It comes from our brain, our hands with opposable thumbs and our bipedalism. It is part of our human nature. Humans have always used technology. And thanks to technology, humans are transforming themselves. The Paleolithic era, also known as the Stone Age, lasted for millions of years until around 10,000 BCE. The first people were food collectors – hunters and gatherers. They only collected what they needed; there was no food surplus. They worked less than twenty hours a week on their tasks. They were a nomadic people, often moving to areas that would allow them to collect the food needed to sustain themselves. In the Paleolithic era, technology played an important role. Compared to today's technology, Paleolithic technology is much inferior, but for the people of the Paleolithic era, their technology was of paramount importance. Their stone tools, their sharpened sticks, their mastery of fire, and their development and use of speech were all technologies that made their way of life possible. These technologies allowed them to control the elements of their environment. Without these things, life as they knew it could not exist. At this time in the Paleolithic era, technology and politics coexisted in harmony; one did not dominate the other, nor did one influence the other. Their technology was simple. During the urban revolution and the birth of civilization, technology exploded and was used for all kinds of activities. Strong leadership and government not only emerged but conquered society. Kings, pharaohs, and senior leaders dictated what technology could or could not be used to accomplish certain tasks. They created bureaucracies to help run the government and oversee the use of different technologies. They supported the development of technologies by investing time, effort, and money in courses to prepare individuals to learn, study, improve current technology, and invent new technologies.
