Essay / Analysis of the Education of the Little Tree - 1675
Forrest Carter's novel "The Education of the Little Tree", tells the story of a young boy and his adventures with his Native American grandparents. Little Tree, the main character, was 5 years old when his parents died and his grandparents took him in. Her grandfather is half Indian and half Scottish, while her grandmother is fully Indian and they live in a small cabin in the wilderness. a mountain. The story goes that Little Tree learns his heritage, survives in nature and his grandfather's methods of trade. This story is also about loss, sadness and hope for a better future and what happens after physical death. The story begins with an introduction of Little Tree's grandmother and grandfather and other characters who appear from time to time throughout the story. Grandpa Wales, as he is called later in the book, is the one who acts as a father figure, teacher, and guide to Little Tree. The grandfather is of half Scottish, half Indian descent. He is over seven feet tall and around seventy years old. Little Tree listens and learns everything he can from his grandfather. Grandpa Wales is a man devoted to his Cherokee side of his heritage. He does everything an Indian does and believes in. Little Tree's grandmother's heritage is Cherokee Indian. As an individual, she is somewhat short and about the same age as her husband. Since she is fully Cherokee, she does all the same things that Cherokee women do. She knows everything about nature, just like her husband, Wales. She is a very good cook and uses all natural ingredients, like the berries and wild meat that Little Tree and her grandfather gathered and hunted. Wales was the only money earner for the family, and it was a decent source of income. for ...... middle of paper ...... how to survive in the wild and how the business of making and trading homemade whiskey with his grandfather works, but it is also a story of loss, sadness and optimism about the future and what happens after physical death. It relates to the course by showing that parenting and education are important. It is sad that Little Tree was arrested by police officers and ordered to be separated from his grandparents and that they did not have Mr. Wine to support them in saving Little Tree. It's even worse that Little Tree was taken to the orphanage and had to endure the mistreatment from the priest and teachers when they were supposed to teach him and not hurt him like he was some kind of object. I don't think I ever want to be in a system that beats children and blames grandparents or relatives for not providing a proper education, when they themselves were not providing a proper education for Little Tree..
