Humanoids are robots based on humans, but they haven't managed to achieve a perfect appearance. The emergence of this gives rise to a new form of research, the uncanny valley. Researchers have found that depending on how something feels to a human being, it affects how comfortable it feels. The scale increases exponentially until it exactly matches the human likeness. In Figure 1 below, anthropomorphism is the resemblance to a human. Researchers have discovered that the uncanny valley has become a turning point in how we experience fear. Scientists are now able to link this turning point to advances in technology. Although the uncanny valley could be linked to any human doppelganger, we have only encountered humanoids.
