  • Essay / Review of articles on organizational behavior as applied...

Different facets of organizational behavior were discussed in the three articles reviewed for this project. Pay Satisfaction, Job Satisfaction, and Turnover Intention by Parbudyal Singh and Natasha Loncar examines the relationship between employee's position, pay satisfaction, and job turnover. Michael Maccoby's 4 Rs of Motivation suggests a formula from which leaders should draw to motivate their subordinates, and the relationships between leader-subordinate personality similarity and work attitudes by Lior Oren, Aharon Tziner, Gil Sharoni, Iafit Amor and Pini Alon examine the effect. the relationship between leaders and subordinates affects job satisfaction. Singh and Loncar used information from two hundred registered nurses who are union members to better understand what changes nursing and hospital leadership should make to reduce nurse turnover and get the most out of their employee investment. Employees who become disproportionately dissatisfied with their jobs fail to achieve the best possible outcome and instead perform at minimum standards. This can result in service standards not being met, leading to customer dissatisfaction. As a negative cycle, once customer satisfaction levels decline, the organization's financial results may decline. In the example of a hospital and nurses given by Singh and Loncar, many other negative effects can arise from simply widespread job dissatisfaction among nurses. Inferior job performance can increase liability and prepare the organization for lawsuits against patients. Failure to meet the standards may result in loss or failure to obtain certification from the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organizations (JCAHO). .....or growth, increased support, decision making, promotion and salary increase (Oren, et. al, 2012). They conclude by emphasizing the importance of heterogeneity in interpersonal relationships in the workplace for positive exchange quality in order to increase job satisfaction and turnover rates.
