After the end of World War II, the United States of America needed to rebuild and progress as a whole. In the late 1940s, the Cold War began. Rather than a physical war, it was a political and social war between nations, the two largest being the United States and the Soviet Union. The United States was gradually becoming less conservative, more simplistic, and progressing rapidly; American society was not easily open to change. However, a few events changed the history of the United States. Man's landing on the Moon from Apollo 11, the Supreme Court decision, and the disarray resulting from the outcome of Roe v. Wade and the Vietnam War have all affected American history. United. As a result of the Cold War, America found itself in a vicarious conflict. with the Soviet Union, fueled by competitive attitudes. Achieving space exploration was a hot topic between the United States and the USSR; this is how the term "space race" came to be used. On May 25, 1961, John F. Kennedy announced his goal of sending an American safely to the Moon (Garber) before the end of this decade (Kennedy). This goal was verbalized by Kennedy in 1961, giving the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) until 1971 to achieve it. This objective motivated the creation of the Apollo program by NASA. Apollo 11 was part of NASA's Apollo program; The goal of Apollo 11 was to land on the Moon. The commander of the spaceship was the iconic Neil Armstrong. Apollo 11 was launched on July 16, 1969 at 9:32 a.m. EDT (Dunbar). An estimated 530 million people watched the television image of Armstrong as he described the event as "one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind." July 20, 1969 (Dunbar).
