Fiction vs. Reality College LifeIn movies and television shows, Hollywood presents college in different ways. In Hollywood, college is stereotyped in extreme ways. After reading several articles, watching a few films and interviewing a few students on campus; I discovered that there are two main types of schools when it comes to film studies: the party school and the philosopher school. In Tranquility Lost, the writer describes the party school as "a place where slackers can drink, get high, make love, skip class and still get by." The film features two freshmen, Larry and Kent, exploring two different fraternities on campus, the Omegas and the Deltas. The boys eventually joined the Delta house where they received their fraternity names Pinto and Flounder. Later in the film, the dean of the school had enough of the Delta mentality towards the school, so he put them on super-secret probation as he calls it, where if they did anything else wrong, he was going to close them. Not knowing it, the students of the Delta house got their hands on the answers to the next test they took and cheated, but it didn't work in their favor as it turned out that they were wrong answers and so they all failed. In response to their failure, you would think that reality would hit them but it didn't, they threw another party. On the weekends I go out and party, mostly at frat parties where there's no beer, but every once in a while I go to friends' houses, get drunk, and have sex. However, during the week I do my homework and study for classes. It's hard to get good grades, but it's not impossible to work for them. As you can see, college isn't exactly one giant party. There may be parties on weekends but very few, if any, during the week. Obviously, college, as far as party schools are concerned, is not the same thing in reality as it is in the movies. Another one.
