  • Essay / Meg Rosoff and How I Live Now - 1334

Meg Rosoff, author of How I Live Now, used external and internal conflict and mood to depict the theme that together nothing bad can arrive. Rosoff brought these elements together in his novels to teach this lesson to his readers. Rosoff is described as a crossover writer and doesn't reflect on cultural dumbing down, where adults tend to get lost in a childish fantasy where books are written for a group of teenagers. In Boston, Massachusetts, in the late 1950s, Med Rosoff was born. Rosoff was born into the Ashkenazi heritage of her mother and father. His father, a former surgeon, worked at Harvard University teaching medicine. His mother was a psychiatric social worker. Together, they all lived in the Boston suburb of Newtown. During this time, Rosoff discovered that she had become a book work (Vincent). During her teenage years, Rosoff was described as an outcast. She wasn't very athletic when she was a teenager. Whereas in the town where she grew up, sport was a social obligation. While in college, she felt the same way (Vincent). After graduating, Rosoff moved to New York. Rosoff left publishing and journalism to join the world of copywriting. Although she rarely kept a job—“I kept losing my job, mostly because I was a loser”—she continued to be an editor for 15 years in New York and London. After that, she stayed permanently in London (Vincent; Rosoff). In 1989, during her first week living in England, Rosoff met her husband. In 2001, Rosoff and her husband married, had their daughter and moved to north London. During this time, Rosoff, although still working, took a leave of absence due to the death of her younger sister from breast cancer (Vincent). Before writing her novels, Rosoff spent...... middle of paper......going home as well as lack of resources. She also uses characterization as part of the conflict. She does this by having Daisy grow up overnight by making her Piper the guardian and having to take care of her. In conclusion, How I Live Now by Meg Rosoff is one of her best-selling novels, using external and internal conflicts as well as mood. to represent its theme. It teaches us that if you are together, nothing can stop you. To do this, she used characterization as well as conflict to not only keep readers engaged, but also to teach us what the theme is trying to tell us as well. Works Cited Rosoff, Meg. How I live now.
