There are several areas of concern when discussing leadership characteristics. One of these areas is directly related to conflict. Every organization will experience conflict. It is up to leaders to resolve conflicts that may have a negative impact on organizations. In doing so, there are several approaches to consider in order to ensure a practical resolution; accommodation, avoidance of collaboration, competition and compromise. Among these options, collaboration is cited as having the most benefits for the organization. A leader seeking resolution through collaboration displays traits that can be identified as qualities associated with effective leadership according to the BarOn Emotional Quotient Inventory (BarOn EQ~i), confronting problem employees and building and repairing relationships (Wilcox and Rush, 2004, p. 8). . Clearly, problem employees can create conflict, as shown in Masters and Albright's Dealing with Conflict. Dealing with this issue collaboratively shows the importance of the relationship between leadership and the individual with whom the conflict arose.
