Essay / Analysis of GE Healthcare and Siemens Diagnostics
EXECUTIVE SUMMARYEach company had its own way of doing business and mitigating risk. I'm particularly intrigued by Siemens Diagnostics and GE Healthcare. Therefore, I will analyze these two successful companies. Siemens Diagnostics operates in the healthcare sector and is located in Swords, County Dublin, Ireland. It provides equipment for immunoassay, hematology, molecular analysis and blood gas testing systems as well as automation, IT and other services. GE Healthcare specializes in medical imaging and information technology, medical diagnostics, patient monitoring systems, drug discovery, biopharmaceutical manufacturing technologies, performance enhancement. and performance solutions services that help their customers deliver better care to more people around the world at lower cost. Siemens Diagnostics produces ADVIA Centaur XP (an immunoassay equipment for detecting cancer, heart disease and fertility tests) and ADVIA 2120i (hematology system for counting leukocytes and red blood cells). The type of industry it operates in makes it prone to risks such as long development cycles, long product life cycles, low production volumes and lower levels of manufacturing automation. Its products are complex and contain multiple interacting parts. These are also the type of products that Siemens manufacturers need from raw materials that have limited suppliers. GE Healthcare produces imaging agents like Omnipaque, Visipaque and Omniscan in glass and plastic containers of various sizes. The risks they face are increasing IT budgets, limited raw materials and long delivery times of a drug. Both organizations need huge investments in R&D because the quality of their products can affect human safety. They have their own set of initiatives in place to manage risk. GE Heal...... middle of paper ... smart way to combat risk. Risks can take any form. This could be man-made or a natural disaster. Risks can also be sector specific. No matter how prepared and organized an organization is, there are always risks of sudden problems. Having an emergency plan in place certainly helps to avoid and reduce the impact of risks.
