Essay / Environment and ethical issues in the book by John Broome
The book written by John Broome, explains how we, as individuals, should understand, the full effect we have on our environment and the ethical problems caused by our greenhouse gas emissions. It describes in great detail the moral injustice we have caused to future generations and many humans today. If we continue to destroy the Earth by emitting CO2 into the air, global warming will continue to melt the polar ice caps; we are facing a crisis that could potentially kill thousands of people. Broome's main problem in the book Climate Matters is the moral injustice of knowing we are doing something wrong and not doing anything to change, because of our transgressions. Broome believes; many people around the world will be displaced due to the ever-rising sea water, and many people will die if we continue on this path of destruction. It may not seem like your input of CO2 into the atmosphere can harm anyone, but when no one does anything to stop it, it builds up and can have a major effect on many people in the world. The book Climate Matters was written to shed light on what is considered ethically unjust and what we need to do to stop ourselves from destroying the planet, which gave us life. One of the main arguments the book makes is: if we are morally unjust, should we do anything to stop this and does being morally unjust mean anything to people these days or the world has it become so selfish that we have lost sight of what is right and wrong. .Brooms' main argument says that we should feel morally responsible, as individuals who emit CO2 into the atmosphere, to do everything we can to stop and take whatever action we can to help people to understand the moral injustice of CO2 emissions. We... middle of paper... instead they put it aside because it doesn't affect them immediately. I believe it is the duty of our educators and our government to help us build a society that does not destroy or encourage the destruction of people and the environment. I'm not saying that's what they're doing, but by not doing anything, they might as well not abandon humanity and the world as a whole. The least they can do is establish rules and regulations on CO2 emissions and establish academic programs that give everyone the opportunity to learn about waste and other factors that affect negatively the planet. With these educational programs in place, no one will be able to say they had no idea what they were doing and when the time comes to be judged for their injustices to the planet and other humans, they can be greeted with the judgment they deserve..
