    Throughout Australian labor history, women have been continually restricted because of their gender (D. Miles 2002). This was due to multiple reasons ranging from caring for family to blatant discrimination against women (M. Leahy 2011). Over the past twenty years, this glass ceiling has diminished (M. Leahy 2011). The glass ceiling constitutes an unrecognized barrier to advancement in a profession, particularly affecting women and members of minorities (Oxford Dictionaries 2014). Australia is an extremely strong country economically and socially, providing a great platform for women to engage in whatever they wish to pursue. This essay will present a view that does not believe in the existence of a glass ceiling for women in Australian work practices. This document will refer to issues related to equality, power, equity and universalization. These questions will help support and justify why the glass ceiling imposed on women in Australian work practices has been removed. Power has changed dramatically throughout women's lives over the past twenty years, not only in Australia but around the world. Power can be defined as the ability or ability to do something or act in a particular way (Oxford Dictionaries 2014). As women's roles have changed and focus more on education which will lead to a career, whereas previously women were forced to marry immediately after completing their education and then start a family. Although the change in female roles took a drastic turn after the start of World War II, women were forced to take on male roles at work, such as working in banks, factories and workshops (E .Tyler May 1988).
