IntroductionEthics refers to well-founded standards of right and wrong that prescribe what humans should do, usually in terms of rights, obligations, benefits for society, fairness or specific virtues (Velasquez, André, Shanks, Meyer and Meyer 2010). Ethics is also about constructing or developing an ethical standard for oneself. In Tobago, the inter-island governing body is known as the Tobago House of Assembly and elections are held every four years. Tobago uses a so-called “first past the post” electoral system. This system is used to ensure that minority interests are taken into account, a high level of voter participation, and to ensure that everyone has an equal voice in the governance of their business (Education Center 2013). The People's National Movement was in power in the THA for twelve years before the January 2013 elections. Politics in the twin Republic of Trinidad and Tobago has always been a controversial area, due to questionable trade deals entered into by politicians and the lack of transparency in the personal lives of elected officials serving the people. The twelve years in the service of the Popular National Movement were not without blunders and accusations of corruption. Here is a list of the problems faced: The controversial Milshirv project Responsibility regarding the TT17Bn allocated to them during the twelve years they were in power. They were accused of misusing funds allocated to them. The answer to this question is yes. The electorate applied an ethical standard in making their decision and did not vote based on mere whims and fancies. Contrary to the opposition's beliefs, the PNM did not win the elections on the basis of race, as the three competing parties were all of African descent.
