Battered Women's Syndrome (BWM) is a syndrome in which women react in a certain way due to the repetitive physical or psychological abuse imposed on them by their spouse. Battered Women's Syndrome (BMW) is not limited to one region or place; it is a problem that occurs all over the world (2009, p. 148). Like any other problem in the world, criticism comes into play by psychologists and others when a person claims to be a victim of battered woman syndrome or the battered woman defense when they are brought to court for killing their aggressors (BMW) (2009, p. 162-163). One criticism focuses particularly on the question of whether or not there is a certain legitimacy in a victim presenting herself as a battered woman and whether she has also experienced direct experience or can it be established that the victim corresponds to the battered woman syndrome. During a battered woman's defense trial, the lawyer representing the battered woman is often criticized for the type of behavior he or she was exhibiting at the time of the trial.
