Essay / Pop culture as an expression of society - 643
Pop culture is the modern way of life that is accepted and recognized by society, the cultural patterns common within a population. The general opinion is that pop culture is a useful expression of society and the dominant environment, because pop culture is the culture followed by the majority and therefore reflects society. A society's pop culture is influenced by many aspects of society, such as music, movies, and modern technology. Modern songs and films promote ideas about drinking, smoking, and clubbing, as well as the use of terrible language. These are heard and seen by adolescents in society, who then feel that it is acceptable for them to get drunk and do what they know they should not do. An example of this is the 2009 film, The Hangover, which, according to personal research, was seen by 84.6% of teenagers. Pop culture has insinuated that for a movie to be comedic, it must include alcohol, sex, and strong language. Not all of the effects of pop culture on teens are negative. In films, it has become common to include some form of sport. It is common to support a football team, like "Manchester United", which is no longer just a football team. In conversations with Manchester United fans it became clear that for them Manchester United is their life and they have a complete obsession with all Manchester United products. This encourages teenagers to play sports, which allows them to have healthy fun with their friends. This is proof that pop culture does indeed have an influence on the youth of society. Even though trends usually come and go very quickly, there are always those few that will stay forever and eventually...... middle of paper ......they wanted. These plays and poetry have now been integrated into education and have become the embodiment of dominant culture. There are very few schools that do not use a Shakespeare play as part of their studied stage work. Even today, Shakespeare's plays are staged and modern versions of his plays have been adapted for film. It can therefore be concluded that pop culture has a significant influence on society in various ways. Even though modern trends will continue to change, there will always be a few trends from each generation that will never fade. These are the trends that will impact society forever. sillytutu.com/writing/Beatles.pdfhttp://www.erasofelegance.com/history/elizabethan.html
