Now the definition of the weak is one who is easily manipulated. We can see that the entire town of Salem is being manipulated into believing that the witches are real, but upon closer inspection we can see that the girls are easily persuaded by Abigail. For example, Mary Warren is an easily manipulated character throughout the play. At first, we see her joining the girls after believing she could confess, but she is then persuaded by Abigail otherwise (Miller, 20). This is the first example of Mary Warren being bullied by Abigail, Mary is simply not strong enough to resist. Abigail. Mary is then just chained to Abigail's efforts and Mary doesn't know that this is only the beginning. Shortly after, Mary Warren can then be seen attacking the girls and testifying against them due to the way she is being manipulated by John Proctor (Miller, 80). Mary is under Abigail's thumb for the majority of the entire first act, to which she is then only persuaded to return to the morally right side of the trial by a stronger individual. Although this persuasion was beneficial, it was still manipulation. This shows that Mary is the weakest link in the eyes of a baseless Abigail and a kind-hearted Proctor. Then finally we see Mary Warren at the end rejoining the girls after they get separated, but only rejoining them after Abigail starts claiming that Mary Warren herself is a witch.
