First responders, such as police, firefighters, and emergency medical technicians (EMTs), are great examples of heroes. When a house is on fire, firefighters are called and rush into burning buildings to rescue anyone trapped inside. In addition to helping others, a hero is a role model. For example, many people, especially children, have family members as role models and heroes. Children often look up to their parents. Anderson and Donna Cavallaro showed that “children most often (34%) cite their parents as role models and heroes.” Children believe their parents are invincible; they can do anything. Teachers and coaches are also examples of heroes and role models. Teachers can easily spend eight hours a day with students in their classroom. They get to know the students and watch them grow. They want every student to succeed. Good teachers inspire students to reach their potential. Plus, celebrities can be heroes. Ellen DeGeneres is a role model and hero to many. She reminds people to be themselves. She's not afraid to show her true colors. She once said, “I think beauty comes from.”
