“For me, suspense has no value if it is not balanced by humor”, words of Alfred Hitchcock whose technique of using the combination of suspense and humor to engage the audience is a technique that many filmmakers today attempt to use in their films. Most suspense or even horror films do not usually contain both suspense and humor, yet Hitchcock used it in the majority of his films like Psycho. Hitchcock used different and original characters, different settings and a good balance between the two elements. The characters used in Hitchcock's films are infamous and known for their bizarreness; some were even used in several of his films. Norman Bates, played by Anthony Perkins, presented himself as an awkward and troubled middle-aged man who lived in the house behind the motel he and his mother owned (Bates Motel). Due to his abnormal relationship with his mother and the fact that he was alone most of the time, his nervousness and unease were revealed. The mother is heard screaming from the house in the back and Norman apologizes on her behalf and says "she's not quite herself"....
