  • Essay / Teacher Observation at El Sausal Middle School,...

For my classroom observation, I had the opportunity to sit in a regular 8th grade teaching class at El Sausal Middle School around mid -February around 8:50 a.m., located in Monterey. County. Upon arrival, I was asked to sign the visitor registration sheet and, for some peculiar reason, I felt déjà vu. I was led to the days and times when I would come into the office looking to talk to my advisor about my grades or what classes to take for the next term. In my opinion, I didn't feel identified since the office had new staff members and my old advisors couldn't keep track of who I was. It was one of the staff members who assigned me where I was to observe. I couldn't help but express to the staff member, "those murals weren't there when I attended this school and it looks different." I'm still not sure if I really want to go into the teaching profession. On the other hand, I am curious about the opportunities that I could pursue in the profession, except that I took this course with the aim of being successful and opening the door to the teaching career. When I first walked into Mrs. G's English class, I had mixed emotions. I couldn't wait to be there and I'm glad I had the opportunity to interact with the students and teacher before class started. It was nice to be greeted by Mrs. G. with a hello and a little greeting. There are about 24 students and I did my best to count them as quickly as possible without disturbing the students. There are about 13 boys and 11 girls with just one teacher. The classroom at El Sausal Middle School had a messy, multi-colored decor. When I say "messy", I mean that the desks, materials and equipment looked older and had been in the middle of paper...or should encourage them to keep trying. There should be no boundary between right and wrong answers, because if the student does not understand the material and gives the teacher the wrong answer, he should not be criticized. They should be informed that even if their answer is incorrect, it is still valid and it is okay to make mistakes.5) Observation helped me gain knowledge that will help me in the future. As I watched Ms. G, I noticed that the interactions with the students helped create a pleasant classroom environment. If I am able to interact with students like Ms. G did, I know I can be a triumphant teacher. Additionally, this observation taught me that my strengths play a key role in being successful as a teacher. Observing this classroom opened up a new perspective that society is not fully aware of in the world of education..
