Oliver loses his bet and asks his enemy for more food at dinner; shocks the adults so much that they offer 5 pounds to anyone who is willing to remove himChapter 3• Mr. Gamfield, chimney sweep, tries to take Oliver as an apprentice• The judge sees Oliver's pale face, asks him if he wants to be Gamfield's Apprentice • Oliver says no; apprenticeship is refusedChapter 4• Oliver becomes Mr. Sowerberry's apprentice (a funeral director)• Mrs. Sowerberry hates him, gives him table scraps and makes fun of his motherChapter 5• Oliver helps at a funeral• N' don't like it • Mr. Bumble beats boys playing in a graveyard • We learn of the horrible plight of the poor who have to help themselves Chapter 6 • Measles kills a lot of people, Oliver does more "business" • Sowerberry gives gives Oliver nice clothes to participate in the service, upsets Claypool • Oliver attacks Noah for insulting his motherChapter 7 • Charlotte and Mrs. Sowerberry Beat Oliver and lock him in the cellar; Noah makes up a story that Oliver attacks him to get him in trouble • Sowerberry beats Oliver and puts him back in the cellar • Oliver runs away the next morning • Sees a boy named Dick in the workshop yard; Dick promises not to tell anyone about Oliver's escape (I don't know if this will become important later???) Chapter 8 • Oliver goes to London on foot • Meets a boy named Jack Dawkins, called Artful Dodger, who offers him accommodation. London• Oliver accompanies her, the house is in ...... middle of paper ...... 5 Monks books for his information• She tells Monks everything and gives him the gold locket that old Sally had stolen from Oliver's mother• Inside the locket are two locks of hair and a ring with Agnes' name on it; Monks drops the medallion into the river. Chapter 39 • Sykes catches a fever, Nancy helps him recover • Sykes asks Fagin for $; He and Nancy go to collect the money when Monks shows up at Fagin's house and asks to speak with Fagin privately. Nancy listens at the doors. Fagin pays Nancy, who runs to Sikes a little surprised. Nancy goes to the Maylie house to talk to Mrs. Maylie. 40• Nancy tells Rose that Fagin is Oliver's brother and that Monks is trying to secure the family inheritance; Monks wants to kill Oliver but doesn't want to risk getting caught. Rose wants to help Nancy have a better life, but she says no because she's attached to Sikes.
