Essay / Analysis of My Sister Lives on the Mantelpiece - 633
This scene is taken from the book My Sister Lives on the Mantelpiece, by Annabel Pitcher. In this book, a young boy, Jamie, tells the story of his family after the death of his sister Rose. Rose was a twin and was killed by a Muslim terrorist attack in London. Since the incident, Jamie's family has been torn apart and struggling to live a happy life. Many important themes were covered throughout this novel. However, I felt that the main theme of this novel was the importance of not giving up, which Jamie strongly demonstrates, and not judging an individual from the outside but from what is inside. In other words, don't judge someone based on their race. Jamie's father describes this theme throughout the book. Due to Rose's death, he becomes resentful and hates the entire Muslim population. My painting illustrates what I thought was the most important scene in the book. This scene occurs after Jamie and Jas audition on Britain's biggest talent show. During this scene I believe Jamie had a lot on his mind and if I could unfreeze the scene this is what I think Jamie would have said. I was so proud of Jas for fighting through his nerves and performing in front of the judges. . I can't believe we both almost chickened out. Now I know why they say Britain's biggest talent competition can change your life. I still get butterflies from the excitement of being on stage. I just wish Mom, Dad or Sunya were here to watch over us. It's now been almost 200 days since I last saw my mother. She didn't come to parents' evening or Christmas like Jas and I had asked. I really miss her but I'm starting to think she doesn't feel the same way. She must be too busy with Nigel. I don't even have hope... middle of paper... actually I go to the beach, park and do fun things like Ryan, Daniel, Sunya and the other kids in my class. vacation. Then I will have something to share in class like the other children. I really enjoyed this book and recommend it to other readers. My Sister Lives on the Mantelpiece This book was a nice and easy read, but it also dealt with some popular issues found in our world today, like racism, alcohol abuse, and anxiety. There were many pivotal scenes that were very important in making this book what it is and the book had my emotions pumping at full throttle. Throughout this novel, there were scenes that made me cringe, smile, laugh, and even want to cry. In the end, you never get bored throughout this novel. My Sister Lives on the Mantelpiece is a must-read and I can promise you won't be able to put down.
