Essay / The connections between acts of obsession,...
The main aim of this essay is to explore the connections between acts of obsession, visual outcomes and the ideas behind them. Concepts and themes were reduced into four focus groups. In the first group I examine two texts that discuss obsession as art, both texts include groups of artists working with obsession in their practice. The second group includes two examples of people struggling with OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder). OCD is a pattern of behavior that is not a choice. These examples I found reveal two completely different people who share the same disorder and share with you how they cope and live their lives. I will then discuss color and form with three texts that help inform the thinking and creation of my art. Finally, I have three texts on the collection of everyday objects. These texts can all be linked to each other through common threads of collections, although I felt it was necessary to group them thematically to better explain the relationships between theory and my practice.ScrutiningI started my journey of annotations by observing a renowned group of 35 artists who share the same obsessive need to acquire objects intended for artistic creation. Lynne Perrelle's book Art making, collecting and obsessions reveals insight into the artistic practices of artists working with the same idea of obsession that interests me in my art. This book was a good starting point for my thinking about the connections between my work and other artists. Perrelle describes each artist's practice and explains how their obsession turns into art. For example, artist Daniel Essig is obsessed with finding small objects that appear out of place along river banks. In Essig there is ...... middle of paper ......oration of the work in mixed techniques and collections of 35 artists. Beverly Massachusetts. Quary Books. Porter, Gwynneth.
