Essay / Abstinence only or abstinence plus - 1598
Teenagers face many problems today. None is more serious than the question of the sex of minors and all the problems that arise from it. The number of adolescent girls who become sexually active, become pregnant, and contract sexually transmitted diseases is rapidly increasing. There is no simple solution or easy solution to this problem. Sex education should begin at home and expand to include an effective curriculum in schools that reinforces a clear message of abstention from sexual activity in addition to informing students of the risks posed by engaging in any activity sexual. Political and religious dissension over this issue has resulted in a procedural impasse preventing schools from effectively addressing the issue and implementing a comprehensive sex education curriculum that benefits young adults in Texas and the rest of the United States. Abstinence-only programs are currently the most widely used in public schools, but this method is seriously outdated and does not adequately address the problem of adolescent involvement in sexual relations with minors, which they are told whether or not he said not to do it. Without proper information, teenagers blindly make decisions to have sex that could impact their lives far more than they can imagine, with most not fully understanding the ramifications of their decision. Implementing across the country a comprehensive Abstinence-Plus program teaching: abstinence, health risks, birth control, teen pregnancy, and providing students with information and birth control is exactly what is needed. Strong emotions and opinions are found on both sides of this argument, but the fact is that abstinence-only programs are insufficient to educate adolescents middle of paper......ineffective at changing adolescent sexual behavior , this is good news for thousands of Texas teenagers and their parents. An increase of over 200% in less than three years is encouraging and hopefully these numbers will continue to grow. Drastic changes need to be made to the country's current policies on sex education in schools. More information needs to be provided to students and their parents to effectively educate them both about the risks of sex with minors and the importance of being fully informed about the overall Abstinence-Plus method. Politicians and legislators need to stop arguing their point of view and open their eyes to the very real reality that more and more teenagers are engaging in sexual activity. Young adults will learn more about sex; the question is: will we control when and how they receive the information or will we leave it up to them ?.
