  • Essay / Cinematics - 1735

General information:This experiment deals with movement. This study of movement is called kinematics. Kinematics studies possible movements. (http://www.britannica.com/EBchecked/topic/318099/kinematics). Kinematics is used to show how an object moves, how fast an object moves (velocity), and the change in speed (acceleration). This is plotted against time individually to determine whether the motion is uniform or non-uniform and whether the acceleration is uniform or non-uniform. Uniform motion occurs when an object has a constant speed and direction. Non-uniform motion occurs when there is a change in speed or a change in direction. Once the graphing is completed, other properties can be discovered such as instantaneous speed. Instantaneous velocity is used to present the speed of an object at a specific moment when the speed changes. Vector and scalar quantities are also very important in this experiment. Vector quantities are any quantity that can be completely described by a number, unit, and direction. The most important characteristic of a vector is direction. Examples of vectors include position, velocity and acceleration, lift, drag and thrust. Scalar quantities are any quantity that can be described by a single number and the correct unit of measurement. Examples include time, distance and speed. The difference between scalar and vector quantities is that scalar quantities cannot describe a change in direction. Vector quantities therefore have two characteristics. It has breadth and direction. Scalar quantities have only one characteristic which is a magnitude. (http://www.grc.nasa.gov/WWW/K-12/airplane/vectors.html). Gravity is important in this experiment because it is the force that is in the middle of the paper. .... walk in the forest. It's the water slide. The water slide is an inclined plane with lubrication (water) to reduce friction when people go down it. The water slide is different from the roller coaster because the water slide is lubricated. Since there is lubrication on a water slide, the safety-friendly inclined plane is different from a roller coaster. Because there is less friction, the water slide can be much faster if federal law allows it. Additionally, since there are fewer ways to ensure personal safety on a water slide, the inclined plane must be less. When going down a water slide, there are no safety belts or harnesses. Rather, there are ways to keep you from straying from the target. Waterslide designers can't use the same techniques to plan roller coasters. This is due to lubrication and limited safety possibilities..
