The training of nurses must focus on the development and promotion of acts by which care is provided” (Vanlaere & Gastmans, 2007). For nurses to achieve this, nursing education must draw on a broader base of scientific and human knowledge, because nursing is both an art and a science. In addition to the quote above, "when nursing courses draw on the humanities as well as the sciences, the heuristic basis of clinical care and problem solving for nurses is broadened" (Vanlaere & Gastmans).,
